Beverly Byrd, JD, LLM
Beverly received her law degree (JD) from
Cumberland Law School of
Samford University in Birmingham , Alabama. While obtaining her law degree, Beverly studied
international law in Europe, visiting and receiving lectures at the
Scottish Supreme Court, the
European Court of Human Rights, the
European Commission, the
European Court of Justice, and the
European Parliament. Several lectures were taught by U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and the former Bosnian War Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor,
Richard Goldstone. After obtaining her law degree, Beverly worked for the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Washington , D.C.
Continuing her specialization in international law, Beverly obtained her
master's (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Law from
Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. While completing this master's in law, she worked for the
Office of the Legal Adviser, United Nations Affairs, at the
U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. While at the State Department, she researched and
contributed to a draft portion of a brief to be submitted to the
World Court.
After obtaining her LLM in International Law, Beverly gained valuable immigration
experience working for two top immigration law firms in the Bay Area.
There, she represented several Fortune 500 companies. Soon after, she
founded Byrd & Associates.
Beverly is licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Alabama, and thus
is licensed to practice federal law in any of the 50 states. As immigration
law is federal law, Beverly is licensed to practice immigration law in
any state.
Beverly is a member of the
American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and currently serves on their Santa Clara Valley Chapter Board. She is
also a member of the Northern California Chapter of AILA. She is the local
AILA liaison or representative to the
San Francisco Asylum Office,
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the
Customs and Border Patrol of the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
